COVID FAQRec Plus is excited to open this fall with modified hours. Below we hope to answer frequently asked questions and provide information on procedures and policies (currently, all subject to change) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cleaning and Hygiene: Rec Plus staff will be cleaning toys, tables, chairs, high touch areas and other equipment several times a day. Groups will be washing hands often and hand sanitizer will be available in every space.

Household Health: If your child’s household consists of any members showing symptoms of COVID-19 or waiting for COVID-19 test results or to be tested contact your Childcare Specialist to discuss a return date for your child. Rec Plus and the MPRB is in close communication with the Minnesota Department of Health and work to follow best practices recommended.

Masks: Masks required for all children and staff while indoors in accordance with Executive Order 20-81, Rec Plus will require the use of face coverings in all indoor spaces. This Executive Order applies to all Minnesotans, making exemptions for children who are five years old and under, and those with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that makes it unreasonable for the individual to maintain a face covering.
Please send a clean face covering with your child each day and talk with them about how to use it. Children will not be allowed into Rec Plus without it. Masks may be temporarily removed when outdoors or when engaged in physical activities where the level of exertion makes it difficult to wear a face covering, as long as social distancing can be maintained and when eating or drinking (children sit 6 feet apart while eating). All staff working in Rec Plus are required to wear masks during their indoor work hours, with the exception of staff who has been approved by HR with a medical condition.

Pod System & Modified Activities: Rec Plus will be using a system of pods to decrease exposure and cross contamination of COVID-19. Children will be split into pods of 14 or less and paired with a staff member. Pods will remain as consistent as possible throughout their time in Rec Plus. Pods will be assigned a room each day and activities will rotate to their room; pods will not change rooms during the same day. All pods will daily receive snack, have outdoor time and participate in modified activities to account for social distancing.

Drop Off, Pick Up & Limited Building Entry: At this time, buildings will remain closed to the public and only accessible to MPRB staff and the Rec Plus children enrolled in our program on that given date. Rec Plus staff will be at your site’s designated drop off and pick up area from 2-3:30 pm for drop off and beginning at 4:30 pm for pick up. At drop off, your Childcare Specialist will confirm you have completed the daily required health screening and that your child’s bag is fully packed for the afternoon. Your child will be given hand sanitizer and be directed by staff on how to proceed. An ID will be required by all adults at pick up; your child will only be released to authorized parents, guardians or other authorized adults listed on your child’s enrollment form. Your child will receive hand sanitizer before leaving Rec Plus.

Health Check: Parents must conduct a health check for their child each day before dropping off at Rec Plus. This includes taking their temperature and screening your child for any COVID-19 symptoms. Children must stay home if they are ill. Participants must be healthy and symptom free for the past 10 days and have a temperature of less than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Symptoms include fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher), cough, shortness of breath, chills, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

COVID-19 Closures: If a child or staff test positive for COVID-19, the program or pod will shut down for 14 days. As directed by the Minnesota Department of Health, children and staff exposed are not allowed to attend another Rec Plus site during those 14 days. You will receive a full refund for that time.
